As previously mentioned, JAMB has introduced a fresh registration system as part of its efforts to deter students from applying multiple times. These recent modifications are also viewed as part of the organization’s commitment to curbing exam irregularities in the nation.

The JAMB profile code constitutes one of the elements introduced by the board. It is a 10-digit code that students are required to provide during UTME registration.

The only way to obtain the profile code is by sending your NIN (National Identification Number) to one of JAMB’s designated SMS numbers, either 55019 or 66019, using your registered phone number.

JAMB will automatically associate your NIN with your mobile number before sending you the profile code. This means that your phone number cannot be used with someone else’s NIN, and vice versa.

6. Your biometric data and passport will be recorded by the representative.

There are two methods for generating a JAMB profile code: through SMS and USSD.

How to Obtain JAMB Profile Code via SMS

Follow the steps below to acquire your JAMB profile code via SMS:

1. Open the Messages app on your smartphone.

2. Send a text containing “NIN” followed by your 11-digit NIN number to either 55019 or 66019. For example, send “NIN 12356813842” to 55019 or 66019. Make sure to include a space between “NIN” and your NIN number.

3. Wait for a few minutes for JAMB to receive and process your request.

4. JAMB will send you a message containing your 10-character profile code.

Please note that you must complete this process using the same phone number that you used when obtaining your JAMB E-PIN.

How to Obtain JAMB Profile Code Using USSD

Having explained the process of obtaining your Jamb profile code through the SMS method, let’s now explore the USSD option.

Getting your JAMB profile code through USSD is a straightforward process. Simply dial *55019*1*NIN# or *66019*1*NIN#, but ensure that you have a minimum of ₦50 airtime on your phone.

Your newly generated Jamb profile code and your full name will be displayed on your phone screen. Alternatively, JAMB will send you a message containing the profile code along with your full name.

Precautions to Take When Generating a Profile Code

1. Avoid sending SMS with a phone number that has been used for JAMB registration by someone else in the past.

2. Any phone number linked to another existing JAMB account is automatically ineligible for a JAMB profile code. In essence, you need a new or unregistered phone number to obtain your JAMB profile code.

3. Do not use someone else’s NIN (National Identification Number) because it will not display or reflect your name accurately.

4. Ensure that you do not send the wrong NIN.

5. Do not send a message to 55019 or 66019 without having sufficient airtime on your phone. You need at least ₦50 for each SMS.

6. Avoid sending multiple messages simultaneously. Wait for 20 minutes to see if JAMB will respond to your initial message before sending another one.

What to Do After Receiving Your JAMB Profile Code

JAMB has announced that the registration for this year will close shortly. Therefore, we urge you to complete your registration well before the deadline approaches to prevent the need for rushed actions that could lead to mistakes and errors in your profile.

Issues with JAMB Profile Code and Their Resolutions

1. Problem: I’ve sent my NIN to 55019 multiple times, but I still haven’t received my profile code.
Solution: This issue may be due to insufficient airtime on your phone. Make sure you have at least ₦50 of airtime before sending the SMS. Additionally, poor network service can cause delays, so wait for a few minutes or an hour before sending another message. If you’re using a phone number previously used by someone else, the only solution is to use a new phone number.

2. Problem: There is a mistake in the full name sent to me. What should I do?
Solution: JAMB automatically sends the names associated with your NIN. To correct this, visit an NIMC registration center and request a name correction. The correction process may take some time depending on their workload. After the correction, send another message to 55019, and you will receive a message with the corrected name and your profile code.

3. Problem: I received an “invalid character found” error message. What is the solution?
Solution: This error occurs if you included unsupported characters in the message sent to 66019 or 55019. JAMB does not support characters like “+ – ( ).” To avoid this error, send only your NIN using the specified format without any unsupported characters.

4. Problem: I received a “Record not found for the NIN” error message. What should be done?
Solution: This error message indicates that you have sent an incorrect NIN. Double-check your NIN to ensure there are no errors in the digits you sent.
