Government Initiates Burden Alleviation Program: Farmers to Purchase Fertilizers at N19,000 Per Bag

The government of Gombe State has announced that farmers in the state will be able to purchase fertilizer for the 2023 farming season at a subsidized price of N19,000 per bag, despite the current market price being N26,000. The state government initiated this discount sales program to ease the financial burden on farmers.

The announcement was made during the flag-off ceremony for the sales and distribution of fertilizers for the 2023 farming season, led by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya. The governor emphasized the importance of timely distribution of subsidized fertilizers to boost agriculture, ensure food security, create wealth, and provide employment opportunities in the state.

The Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli, stated that Governor Yahaya had procured 160 fertilizer trucks at a cost of N2.8 billion, with an increase of about 35 trucks compared to the previous year. The governor also mentioned that an effective framework had been put in place to ensure the sales and distribution of fertilizers across all 114 political wards of the state, reaching the real farmers at the grassroots level.

Governor Yahaya warned farmers against diverting or mismanaging the subsidized fertilizers, emphasizing that the law would take its course against anyone found guilty of such actions. The government aims to support farmers and promote agricultural development while ensuring the proper utilization of resources.
