In a significant ruling, the Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order demanding transparency regarding the expenditure of approximately $5 billion from the late General Sani Abacha’s looted funds. The court instructed the governments of former Nigerian presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan, and Muhammadu Buhari to disclose the details of how the funds were utilized. This landmark judgment was delivered by Justice James Kolawole Omotosho in response to a Freedom of Information suit filed by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) with the case number FHC/ABJ/CS/407/2020.
