Acting IGP Egbetokun Designates CP Tunji Disu as Personal Security Officer to the IGP

The Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has made an announcement regarding the appointment of Police Commissioner, Tunji Disu, as his Principal Staff Officer. Effective immediately, Disu, who previously headed the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), will assume this new role.

In an official communication from the Police, it has been stated that Disu’s appointment takes effect immediately. As the Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector General, he will play a crucial role as an aide to Egbetokun in his new position.

CP Disu holds a degree in English Education from Lagos State University (LASU). He was born on April 13, 1966, in Lagos Island, Lagos State. Additionally, he has earned two master’s degrees—one in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University, Ondo State, and another in Criminology, Security, and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University.

Disu joined the police force on May 18, 1992, and has undergone various professional training programs both domestically and internationally. Some of these include Small Arms Smuggling Training in Botswana, Internet Fraud Training at Cambridge University in the UK, Strategic Leadership Command Course at the Police Staff College in Jos, and Forensic Investigations and Criminal Intelligence Course at the University of Lagos.

On August 2, 2021, Disu was appointed as the Commander of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) by former IGP, Usman Alkali Baba, following the suspension of DCP Abba Kyari. Prior to this, he served as the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos State, where he led a team that made numerous arrests of criminals, particularly fraudsters.

During his career, Disu also held the position of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. Furthermore, he previously served as the second in command of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Rivers State.
